Not exclusively or even predominantly any religion though. I
grew up in a blue collar town. Irish/Italian working class.
People who stayed in the town tried to keep people who wanted to
go to college down. It was subtle but it was always there. This
is a common problem in many communities. You also see it in the
workplace. People who want to climb the corporate ladder are
kept down by those in the same group who aren't progressing.
They don't even realize they're doing it either.
