*It's spread far beyond a definition, Naveem. Why are there
leaders? Why are there people quoting memes? Why are there
foundations?* I'm looking at it from an outsider's point of
view. Atheism may have a nice definition at its core, but what
has sprouted that ALSO shares the word "Atheism" is a part of
it. If you want to EXCLUDE the society around atheism, then you
must give the same license to others as well.* That's all I was
saying.   -- Naveed, how can I be a fundamentalist at not
agreeing that atheism isn't a belief system? What fundamentals
  am I returning to? --
strict adherence to the basic principles of any subject or
  discipline.
    - That's not fundamentalism. "strict adherence to the basic
principles of any subject or discipline." If anything, you could
be defined as an atheist fundamentalist, because you keep
returning to basic principles, even if it's one. -- *I take less
for granted than you realize. The thing is: You're giving all
the credit to Science. But the credit is shared with
Engineering, Technology, Mathematics, Politics, Economies and
many other factors. You may have me misrepresented. Perhaps I
have done the same with you.   -- Wait, what? No. How are you
defining Science? It must be awfully broad to encompass all of
that. Science as a field didn't even exist until after it was
known as Natural Philosophy. Is there a retroactive credit being
applied here?   -- *Never understood why people get angry when
they're trying to prove a point. There's facts, there's history,
there's knowledge. But then people get all upset. Humans are
weird. -- *Well, honestly, I didn't know there was an "us". I
  hope I'm not a "them". I don't even know what "them" I'm
supposed to be. I'm not good at roleplaying*tongue emoticon*
Perhaps I presented myself improperly. If you've formed an image
of what kind of person I am, please let me know and I'll either
agree or correct it. That might help. -- *It's ok. I get hot
under the collar sometimes too online. I've been online since
1989, so I had lots of practice sitting on my hands instead of
typing. [I actually LITERALLY would sit on my hands for 30
seconds, which was the old advice for when that feeling of
"flaming" / "flame war" started to come over you]. Anyway, it
seems our disagreement comes to definitions and word choices in
  any case. --
