It would be nice if there was "One True View" of History but
there's not. That's what makes it so fascinating.
But, like the Byzantines so guarding the status quo, we too in
the 21st century have our OWN Status Quo; our own received
historical accounts.
Challenging received assumptions doesn't hurt it if done right.
It should make the ongoing "fillings in" of history more and
more rich. a quick search I _just did_ for "Byzantine Science"
showed that someone else did my legwork for me. I could've saved
all this writing. And to think, I thought I had something novel
to present smile emoticon
