yeah I missed the spider the first time through as well. But the
  SECOND TIME I was like, "oh yuck, spider". Third time through I
  figured he has the whole "peace with all the critters on the
  Earth" thing going for him and the spider was his pet... or ...
  he was the spider's pet - or something.
