Once a long time ago, I tried writing in straight PostScript
  [which is what PDF is, in the same way that MP4 is a
  video/audio/compression package, PDF is a
  PostScript/Font/compression package].

  It's a nice, logical system, all plain text. Lots of slashes.
  VERY verbose though.
