It's true. I think it's because, in US schools, we're taught
that there's great differences between countries and that the
USA is somehow unique and special in every way, including
language.
We strut our stuff around the world and we can't do anything
wrong.
I love being born and raised and living in the USA but I suspect
I'd have the same experience in most any other place.
But the USA is HUGE IN SIZE. Our news almost never covers any
country OTHER than our own because there's so much crap
happening here, that we never get bored of it.
It's like 50 little countries and in size, they are.
So, we get cocky. USA is progressive and everybody else is
backwards except the Netherlands, which the USA seems to have a
love affair with.
I deal with US bigotry all the time and try to correct people
because THEY EMBARRASS me. I'm like, "Dude, you're from the same
country as me and you're making Americans look like idiots".
