When I look at something, I "zoom in and out and participate"
  simultaneously. Like right now:

I'm responding to things coming into my retina, up my optic
nerve, down the v4/v5 pathway split into outlines and textures,
other parts going to the semantic systems, finding meaning
through metaphorical connections of concepts, entering my
consciousness where I piece together a ratio-emotional response
based upon the story it tells me about what I just witnessed,
and down my nerves they travel to my fingers where I begin to
type on my keyboard, which activates little plungers that
connect aluminum or copper contacts, through through the
computer (which I could go into detail about), out the Wifi, to
my router, up to the network hub, down the packet switching
networks from computer to computer, finding the optimized route
as best it can, to your router, through your wire or wifi, to
your computer or phone (which is still a computer), to the
display, across the air into your eye, onto your retina down the
optic nerve and the process repeats similarly for you.

So in that sense, we're physically connected during
  communication.

This is normal to me. Explaining it just seems strange tongue
