On the contrary. Unitarian Universalists are like the
"unChurch". They present themselves as a church for reason,
science, politics, debate. They're more of a humanist
organization than a church of believers.
It's one of the things that makes them unique. Some UUs are
Christian-ish but most carry a mild view of God [one that's
actually very similar to the Methodist church I grew up in,
which also had a very tame, mild generic view of God, but UU
even more tame].
Imagine a church where Joseph Campell's The Power of Myth was
commonly drawn upon?
The 'gist' is that "there's something more and be good to each
other and be honest".
Religiousity is nearly antithetical to UUs: There's really
nothing much to be religious about.
They tend to be filled with Wiccans, Pagans, Atheists, New
Agers, Agnostics, Earth religions, humanists, skeptics,
rationalists... in short, it's a place to go, hear a nice talk
about how life sucks but we can still be good people, sing a few
songs, have coffee, and make friends/connections.
