Why do the left and right of politics seem so similar?* Because
they are. They're on a single line drawn on a single piece of
paper.
One is on the left side of the line.
One is on the right side of the line.
Very one dimensional, all of it.
Flip the paper around and left becomes right and right becomes
left.
In short, its symmetrical.
Plus, there are other pieces of paper and other lines. Oragami
complexity, paper shredders.
But the political spectrum is just a line on a piece of paper.
