https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_generation_computer When
5th generation computing CRASHED in the late 80s, when everybody
else was cheering, "Yay, no more Soviet Union", I was a 16 year
old kid going, "fuck fuck, they killed the parallel processing!
They killed it!" ... but then I got a 300bps modem and a 286 and
got online. I was satisfied with making new friends online. But
still... the back of my head was annoyed.
I kept waiting. All they did is make computers a little faster,
tweak the graphics.[2]#yay unsure emoticon But the internet was
fun to watch progress and I've been enjoying the ride.
*FINALLY* robots came back into vogue, and AI started becoming a
"thing" again in the early 2000s. I thought robotics was dead. I
thought artificial intelligence was dead.
So, it's hard to pin hopes in singularity dreams.
