*I was taught to skip muscle groups; an every-other-day
schedule. Basically, Day 1 upper body, day two lower body - and
of course there's inbetween groups you can work out any day,
  like abs and such.

That way, even though your legs won't work well on the day after
a work out, your arms will. And visa versa.

But when I didn't listen and did my whole body, I felt like a
  little kid in a snowsuit.

But I was doing the "big muscle" training. Funny thing is: As
long as you keep up the protein more or less every day, you keep
the muscles. I haven't worked out in years but never lost the
muscles or the strength. I do work on balance frequently though.
When I'm bored in a parking lot, I walk on the lines, sometimes
stand on one foot and hover as long as I can.

  I'm lazier than u - keep up the good work(out). You're doin'
  fine*smile emoticon
