  It's a tricky concept to get across to some people because they
  were trained in a way of thinking such as, "Well, if it's
  useful, it must have been designed by someone or something".

  And they're right. I call it Happenstance. Happens to work. Why
  does mathematics correspond well to Physics? Happens to work.
  Why does mathematics correspond rather poorly to the
  complexities of other many other Sciences? Mathematics happens
  to not work as well as words in those cases.
