I don't believe society is a real thing though. But there *are*
  whole series' of influences of people upon people upon people
  which allow us to teach and learn language and culture. Perhaps
  culture = society. Yet even then, we have the choice to form
  subcultures, learn about the cultures we were taught and do
  something different instead.

  There's _some_ limits. Fluency in other cultures like fluency in
  other language is not easy past a certain age, but one can try.
