[self-publishing is simple. That thesaurus was my first. I
challenged myself to do it in 45 minutes from a cold start, just
following instructions. I did a datadump, got the various
convoluted bits of software to convert it into an ebook, then
found out I *don't* need to do it that way, picked a cover, and
up it went. Took an an hour and a half, so I kinda failed there.
2nd book I hit my 45 minute from cold start. I picked 100 random
things I wrote elsewhere that sounded good, made a table of
contents, picked a cover, set a price, uploaded, done.
Why did I do it?
a) I wanted to understand the Process of "How to do it"
b) I didn't want my first book to have my heart and soul in it
just yet.
After all, EVERYBODY pours their heart into their first book,
then gets upset when it doesn't sell anything.
I thought, "why not just get SOMETHING up there that means
something to you.. without it being THE BOOK THAT WILL CHANGE
THE WAY HUMANITY SEES ITSELF FOREVER" - which seems to be the
book a lot of ppl want to write.
That book might come later, might not. But at least I can
honestly say, "I'm an author" and I didn't waste time obsessing
and tweaking. I'll do that later.
I rarely ever say "I'm an author" except in quotes like this and
when I tell the story of how I'm not really an author yet tongue
emoticon
