Oh I complain but really it's flattering. I listen when they
  talk. I pay attention. I take them seriously. I don't talk down.
  I'll let them win games up to about the age of 7, but then, they
  get challenged. No more easy-street. More respectful that way
  'cause they can see through adult patronizing behavior by then.

  I've been through a lot of nieces/nephews through the years, so
  I don't need Piaget to see the stages. I encourage storytelling,
  only occasionally challenge "that's a lie" when it's mean to
  someone else or unsympathetic to an extreme.

  I could write a "how to be a good uncle" book but it's not hard
  to do.
