Here's one nice crossover between Philosophy and Cognitive
  Science: Heidegger.

Heidegger proposed in the late 1920s that a person's tools
becomes a part of them as they work.

About two years ago - nearly 100 years after Heidegger , fMRI
scans proved Heidegger was correct, as part of their embodied
  cognition experiments.

In short, when you use a hammer, your brain-map of "self"
EXTENDS to _INCLUDE THE HAMMER_. The hammer becomes a part of
  *you*, quite literally.

Same is true for experienced car drivers. Your mental body-space
extends outwards to include the entire car. That's why we can
drive at all and avoid accidents, park and such. The machine
becomes a part of us in our mental maps.

So, that's a nice bit of Heidegger that's been proven true, at
least to my satisfaction smile emoticon
