m - I would suggest the wayback machine but I suspect that was
one of your first stops. I have a similar experience with
PC-Link/AOL.* They blasted their archives not that many years
ago and it's really a shame because there's a lot of 'net
History in there. I did find some interesting archives people
did that have the potential to contain some stuff I wrote but
after downloading a few, converting into something I could read,
I put it aside 'cause I realized that most of my talking was
done in chat rooms. [or IRC] and that stuff rarely gets
archived. [it's probably a 'good thing' but still, one would've
expected webpages to have some longevity but nope, not in the
least]. I remember the stuff they tried through the years,
trying to make permanent URLs [which were already supposed to be
permanent] - and I suspect they realized that it was kind of a
futile effort, although I'm sure some people are still working
on it. A lot of information will come and go like a blip on the
radar and be irretrievable until the 'net gets a permanent
memory, but I don't see that happening for a while, although I'm
REALLY grateful for those who take the time to make archives and
save them because, well, it's something.
