I like Sean Carroll.. but... he's a die-hard believer. I mean..
*really* die-hard. Speaks of the "spirit of physics", and all
about the awe and mystery of big bang and cosmology and all the
marvel-awesomest-ish-ness of standard Science Channel fare. I
ate that stuff up for years and it's fun.
  But...
It's party-line... and the excessive consistency among a
_certain_ small group of very public theoretical physicists has
my growing concern.. He's a strong believer in the arrow view of
Time, which includes Block Time... and really, there's no
alternative in his view. He tells marvelous stories and
everything 'seems to fit'... but... it's *too good*, too
consistent... too pat. Red flags to religious convictions.
Scientism is a-foot. it doesn't mean that Science is bad..
just.. it's easy to cross "over that line" and not even see it,
especially when you've got popular speaking engagements and a
very powerful crew on your side. Personally, I don't believe the
world _doesn't_ exist because we have a lag time, although I
find the lag time _extremely_ fascinating. It *does* mean that
we don't have _direct_ sensory apprehension of reality. Thanks
  for the 80ms btw - I couldn't remember the number, but 80ms
sounds like the right number for nervous system travel. The
shortest might be even shorter... I'll have to check, but 80ms
  sounds about right on average.
