We don't have direct access to our OWN experience's. The flaw is
assuming that somehow we do. The brain is an outcropping of the
nervous system It is part of the same nervous system that pain
is.
A story told, by whatever means, that engages the
listener/reader/watcher/whatever into replacing their "me" with
the "me" of the character through suspension of disbelief, and
YES, you can feel their pain. Shared subjectivity.
