It all started April 2013... well this process.
Since the age of 11 years old, I've been obsessed [on and off]
with the concept of a Thought Collector. I wanted to be able to
THINK, and have it stored. DONE.
Tried so many ways through the years, all while going through
  regular life.

Then in April 2013, I decided I would capture EVERY THOUGHT as
  it happens.

  And so I did.

Six months and thousands of index cards later, it finally
tapered off. I still have to scan them all in, but it gave me a
good idea of how my brain works, its timing, where thoughts come
from and how feelings interplay... and this combined with a
heavy study of CogSci and trying to map out 'The Brain'... and
mathematics, and circuits and whatever the heck else I could get
  my hands on.

The process continues. The website was part of the outcropping.

I don't save every thought anymore, but I did it once and it's
  not hard.

I set up piles of index cards in common places, with a pen next
  to them.

That was it. I was always within distance of something to
capture a thought on - one per index card.

Sometimes I'd layout four or five index cards as conflicting
thoughts came in at the same time, vying for attention, but I
  got them all down.
