After spending a portion of my spare time on the pixel-to-voxel
mapping project, trying to comprehend as much as I can,
everything to do with mapping, how its done in games, how NASA
does it, what the file formats are, their strengths and
weaknesses, and really seeing "What's Wrong" with how we've been
doing things and how it will eventually be fixed... ...I'm going
to put aside this phase my too-big project and move onto the
next phase.* Dealing with a 105 Gigabyte TIFF that represented
only 1/2 of bigplot to pixel-perfect flawless accuracy...*
breaking things into tiles, putting them back together again,
and really getting my brain around the complexities of it all...
I can see that I have to "make do" with systems as they are. I
may embark on a GIS-for-document storage. Not sure. I've seen
some efforts being done in that area, but not as much as I
expected to see. It's hard to explain why I'm doing this.* I
don't know the end goal, I just that what I work on is leading
towards a something - and so far, following that formless
something has proven unbelievably useful in life. Completion to
me isn't always a product I can show off. Completion to me is
understanding the process; venturing out into areas that I don't
understand, until I can dip my toes into strange waters.* Once
I've done that, I don't need to spent my time swimming in it.*
I'm satisfied with touching a star without a glove and then
travelling to the next unknown destination.
