$34,000/yr is what it takes to be in the world's top 1%. i had
to remind someone of this today, an American like me who was
complaining about the rich get richer and all that.* I mean,
yeah, American's an oligarchy, not a democracy. We were supposed
to be "better than all that". But really, we have hardly
anything to complain about, money-wise. $34,000/yr is what it
takes to be in the world's top 1%. Where you're born, well,
that's a bit of an accident really or providence, depending on
how you look at things.
http://foreignpolicy.com/2012/02/27/were-all-the-1-percent/ Some
things have improved but other things got worse. I'd say that
socially things have never changed. in any society. A few
powerful on top with everybody else making do.
The only exceptions are smaller communities and countries. They
can manage a social structure of wealthier citizens, which is
basically what you're talking about.
