Media replays a single clip or shows a single image or talks
  about a single event repeatedly.

This results in the *impression* that this singular event is
  ongoing, repeating, never-ending.

But it isn't. It's a single event that happened. Then it
stopped. My view on the news: I wait until somebody important to
me _tells me_ about an event. *Then* I research it and try to
get three or four equally intelligent, conflicting points of
  view.

And then I decide how I feel and what my opinion is.

But otherwise? If it's not a hurricane coming to my house (which
we get every few years here in Florida) and if it doesn't
_directly_ affect someone I know or my near future or the near
future of people I care about... then I put it to rest. It's out
  of my control.
