I went to a hippie college (never finished - Hampshire College,
  Amherst, MA):

  I was a typical 18 year old know-it-all prick. I'm all for
  tolerance; but I also liked pointing out hypocrisy - both in
  myself and others.

  Anyway, I lost a few friends when I started saying, "If you're
  only tolerant of tolerant people, how are you tolerant? You just
  like the people that are like you. You have to be tolerant of
  INTOLERANT people to be really tolerant!"

  And yeah. Pissed off a lot of ppl and I'd walk away smiling
  after making my little speech, which I did a lot. The ones that
  "got" what I was saying, they remained friends for life though.
