The 18th century faith in the detached, rational subject- along
with its epistemological correlate: the objectively
comprehensible universe- as a philosophical grounding for
cultural, political, economic and technological application has
lead to the creation of the prospect of Nuclear war and Global
Warming, both means by which humans can potentially annihilate
ourselves as a species.
