In English, we analogize "The words people use" as bucket and
"the meaning behind the words" as water.
We do it unconsciously, as it has been incorporated into our
language long ago.
There are a number of expressions that are related to buckets
and contents. As a native English speaker, I am rarely conscious
of them but I try to be.
