I think when we make too broad of a distinction between subject
  and object, we're giving excess dominance to a very small part
  of the Universe, our little nugget/network/whatever-it-is of
  consciousness.

  Then again... perhaps our consciousness extends to our species,
  or spans Time in ways our bodies can't. If that is the case,
  then perhaps our consciousness is quite large but even then, not
  separate.
