I did some stuff with Amnesty International on the early
Internet when I was in the youth rights movement [well, my group
*was* the youth rights movement at the time. Meh, nostalgia
ridiculousness]
Anyway, I ended up getting past that when I realized I had other
fights to fight and do-gooders breaking up sweat shops can
sometimes cause more harm than good. I'm all for Living Wages
Worldwide... but different cultures are at different stages of
development and our own society doesn't support a Slave-free
world.
Conquer abuses when found but carefully. Sometimes a "let's fix
this once and for all right away" attitude, especially when done
by priviledged people for the 'benefit of underpriviledged" can
end up causing more long-term harm due to shortsightedness.
