* Yes. I think the best shot we had was John Dewey and
Progressive Education movement. But WWII changed priorities
and it was all 'back to basics" - whatever that means.

Now it's been a fight between indoctrination and
      individualism/creativity movements. For years I thought i
could SAVE THE WORLD if I could save education.

But then I'd have to get into politics or write an
      influential book or something.

Then, after I saw how Bill Gates is manuvering American
Education (I don't know about Ireland - I've actually heard
fantastic things about your education system in comparison
to USA; A greater happiness ratio among students... although
I think one of the Nordic countries has everybody beat..
Sweden is it? Denmark? I dont remember).

Anyway, he wants to sell Tablets to school and keep his
company profitable for a long time to come. So, by getting
involved in testing procedures, revamping education with a
newer statistical model, up comes "Common Core"... a
soldier-like system where student's correctness is
continually questioned, yet more things are set up as
purposely confusing as to keep the educators always in
      control... with an uncertain outcome.

I was gong through my "The Sky Is Falling!" routine a few
months back until I realized... it's just yet another way
school is gonna suck, and yet kids will manage anyway. Some
won't. Some will get lost in the shuffle and end up as
      wounded soldiers.

Thankfully, in the USA there's more homeschooling, and as
hard as one may try, indoctrination only works up to a
      certain point. There's always hope.

[5]Kenneth Udut I'm all for questioning truth. But my nephew
is going through the beginnings of this Common Core thing
here... and he does math in his head. "Show your work" is
getting more important even than when I was in school... and
right answers are marked wrong. The shell-game of "let's
confuse the kids and call it education" _really_ is
      maddening to me.
