I had something happen at a weekend church camp when I was 11 or
12.* Everything was quiet and I was just watching a fire in the
fireplace or something at this retreat center with other kids
from our church. Anyway, I wondered, "What would everything be
like if there was no color - just refractions of light and
density of matter?" In my mind, suddenly, I could see through my
feet, the earth, all the way to the ends of the Universe.* It
was superimposed upon everything around me.* It didn't really
seem to have a color; it was like crystalline and there was no
limit to how far I could see. I didn't even need to zoom but I
could.* I could look at just "be there", while also staying here
as I looked around. It was pretty neat; there was no sense of
distance or anything. Long story short, it stuck with me and I
can recall it anytime.* I have no idea where it came from; just
a random curiousity, and I guess my brain was capable of
rendering some kind of representation of what it might be like
to have a Universe devoid of color, with just refractions +
different densities.
