The map is part of the territory; there is nothing that is
"outside" of this Universe (that I'm aware of). The map is also
the territory in that it is linked to us and informs us more
about the territory than we can derive from the territory alone.
In short, I don't think there is a distinction that is firm
between the two except for one: Us. Without us to live in the
territory or interpret the map, none of it really matters. We
*can* use math to map out the Universe and if we consider that
map to be also the territory we walk on; in other words, if we
*see* the territory solely from the maps terms, the Universe
*for us* _becomes_ the map and the territory.
In other words, from a mathematical point of view, they're the
same thing. A mathematical map can be the mathematical
territory.
Does that mean that it is the same territory I walk on? I don't
believe it to be. My worldview doesn't consider it so. I see the
world from a different perspective. I'm not entirely relativist;
but somewhat; our perspective matters greatly; a form of
objectivity is possible within self-consistent schools of
thought (such as mathematics) but in my point of view, it's
still subjective; yet objective for those within its way of
thinking.
