The World of mathematics describes our Universe quite well,
insomuch as it is describing those things that can be described
mathematically. Mathematics is extraordinarily useful but we
must not forget that it is a Tool, like a paintbrush, painting
our Universe with numbers. But when there is a popular notion
that is growing that says "The Universe *is* Mathematics"... and
even a popular book... I grow concerned. The paintbrush is the
paintbrush; it is not the Canvas. The Canvas is not the thing
that's being painted; it is a Canvas. As accurate as a symbol
is, it's still a symbol and not the reality, except perhaps in
the way it activates the Human Imagination. It is within the
Imagination that it becomes a Reality, from the perspective of
  the Imaginer. -Ken
