Janis Kenderdine :D you have a way with words - and reminded me
of my linguistics class (which was one of my favorites in
Hampshire) - This is the distinction I keep tripping over in
research: Forms/shapes/what-it-is-regardless-of-us-being-here
and Function/purpose/how-does-this-apply-to-me. I don't think of
it as a duality, but we are steeped in duality so it has been
tricky to find ideas that aren't simply modified dualism. Heck,
even the idea of ideas (perfected forms in the mind) is
dualistic... and so is the word 'form' even... ugh. Hard to
escape it. :P "
