^The idea of a healthy clock which communities can decide on is
one that we do anyhow. Have you ever noticed that in different
places, there are different "paces" - different speeds? The new
idea I'm proposing is KEEPING things the way they are, timewise
for most things; BUT ADDING the ability for communities to set a
local clock. For example, a vacation community like Naples
Florida might have a clock with slower moments, a business
community might have a clock with faster moments.
There would be Universal time still, of course. I'm not
radically proposing that change; science, business, commerce,
the Internet - many things need a Universal Clock.
But what about the local communities? What's wrong with two
clocks side-by-side? One reflecting Universal time that ticks at
a certain familiar pace - and another ticking at a slower or
faster pace, one that better reflects the community's ethos? It
sounds redundant and ridiculous but what I'm proposing is
allowing that choice of setting your own pace.
Communities ARE different from each other. We try to make the
world work at the same pace but why should it be that for
everybody? If you want to get ahead in business or need to
synchronize with someone outside of the community? Sure. But we
have the technical prowess now where having the ability to bring
back a local clock is quite simple.
And I think following a more natural pace with regards to the
Sun or some other measure a community decides on; a community
with a big nightlife could have a slower clock reflecting the
laidback day of the community - that sort of thing.
I'll find the right way to explain it in fewer words where it
makes more sense. These are all just rough drafts. 2014 at
