True enough, but intelligence (which can be possessed by adults
as well as kids) and a cautious listening ear should prevent any
troubles. For example, boiled down to its most "idealistic" set
of motives, the Klu Klux Klan isn't doing anything too terribly
awful - preservation of what they hold dear. In practice, in
use, etc., the things *done* in the name of Ideals can be
dangerous, painful, hurtful, destructive. Or, how about the
"We're behind America 100% - Right or Wrong" crowd, popular in
the 1950's, and during any wartime efforts? *In one sense, it's
a great kind of solidarity - a group working together towards
supporting something they believe in, mistakes or not. [rather
like a spouse standing firm with their beloved against the face
of opposition, even when they *know* that their spouse is
mistaken] Put into practice, while it is often helpful, and when
America was Wrong, it wasn't always all that bad. *But there
have been times where it would be been better for the
America-Right or Wrong crowd, who *knew* that America was wrong,
to join forces with the groups that were *fighting* the wrong
already. There's room for all, as long as there is free
association. And even when there isn't, you always have your
thoughts and your spirit, which *nobody* can control. And that's
where freedom ultimately reigns. Usenet group:
