Cyber Scare

I suspect cyber crime is mostly hysteria.  Remember
Y2K?  We were ready to lock down the World, but nothing
happened.  It turned out instead to be a lesson for
corporations and governments on how to inflict cyber
scare.
Sure there are people who will take advantage of a
situation.  It's always been like that and we knew how to
take care of ourselves.  Sure there are people who will
take your money if you leave it laying around.  Who would
be so stupid, then along came the Internet.  The caution
was tremendous at first, and only a few daring or
unthinking soles put their credit card numbers online,
but the lure was so seductive, that gradually almost
everybody was drawn into putting their private and
personal information online.  Now with information
technology we throw caution to the wind and for what?
Convenience?  Popularity?  Social networking?  Since
we've taken less caution like this, and lost control of
our personal information, maybe this is a sign that
technology is moving to fast, do you think?
