I have updated my POWER9 box to the Fedora 41 recently (before a month
or so). Since that moment I was suffering mouse problems. I replaced my
old mice (an optical IBM one) which has mechanical problems with the
left button. The new one (the IBM-branded optical mice, too) worked but
was SLOW and freezes often. It was most noticeable in the Firefox
(short freeze almost after any click) but similar behaviour was
noticeable when using file manager (in the MATE) and so. Interestingly,
the keyboard has no such issues.
I tried almost everything to configure my system (well, except of
change from X11 to the Wayland...) but nothing helped.
So... as the last desperate effort I have tried to replace the modern,
optical, USB mouse with mu old good SGI mouse (the PS/2 thing with an
adapter, with three buttons but without any scrolling thing). And it
have been working from that moment. No delays, no freezes!
My PS/2 adapter has ports both for the keyboard and mouse so I have
replaced my backlit MNT v3 keyboard (with mechanical keys) with the old
SGI Granite keyboard which is full-sized and has mechanical keys with
long travel. No backlight, no Windows-like keys.
Also, the USB mouse+keyboard combination occupied 2 USB ports in my
hug. The PS/2 adapter uses just one UB. So the second one has been used
but the USB to serial port adapter (connected to the Palm III dock).
So my Palm IIIx has been connected once again. It is now synchronised
and is ready for action!
