Ubuntu 18.04
============

Today I updated  one of my work  machines to the Ubunt  18.04 LTS. Most
probably I  will have  to update it  to the 20.04  at least  but Ubuntu
updates have to be done in steps.

The machine in  question is an old  Lenovo x61s. The laptop  I used for
years for important tasks but now it is quite old and well used. Now it
serves as  a TeX/Octave/XFig  machine. Anyway, it  is still  capable to
drive my  24" EIZO screen  (1920x1080). I am sure  that it has  still a
plenty of power for this type of use.

The upgrade was quite smooth. The only problem was that it replaced the
Unity  with the  GNOME desktop.  Not only  it is  slow but  it is  also
somewhat unfriendly and unintuitive. So I have had to install the MATE.

The whole process probably took a few hours. I'm not sure how much as I
worked on  the machine  during this  time and almost  forgot that  I am
upgrading it... Of course, this is  not the best practice but this time
it worked.

Hopefully upgrade to the 20.04 will be easy, too.
