The MC 600 is a nice laptop with a passive LCD and a great keyboard. IT
also runs the MS DOS 3.3. It means that it can run PSION's ORG2 IDE
(that is, the integrated development environment for the Organiser II
with a debugger and the emulator).
I have been using it in this role (albeit infrequently) and I wrote
about it before some time.
But I always needed to transfer the files to a desktop machine and then
transfer them to the Organiser II. This is of course stupid because the
communication software is of course DOS-based. Thus it should run on
the MC600, too.
Recently I have tried to use it. The CL.EXE works without issues
but the problem is the cable. The MC600's serial port is a bit
non-standard: it is a round one but not the famous Macintosh-like one.
The Series 3a cable can be used (it consists of two parts and if they
are separated then MC-compatible connector emerges). But I cannot find
a correct adapter for connection of 25-pin Organiser II cable to 9-pin
end of that MC's cable.
But recently I have found at eBay an "MC serial printer cable" with the
25-pin end. It ideally connects to the Organiser II cable. But that's
all. That setup does not work - the Organiser II cannot see the
"desktop" machine on the other end of the cable... As the cable seems
to be intact the problem is probably in the pinout. So I have to search
for another adapter...
P.S. The parallel cable for the Atari Portfolio work without issues.
But the MC's parallel port is the standard one.
