SGI IRIX today
==============

After reading of two Czech WWW  posts ([1] and [2]) where authors wrote
about  their old  computers  being less  and less  able  to connect  to
outside world (enforcing of newer  encryption types making SSH and even
WWW access impossible,  incompatible changes in X11, end of  FTP and so
on) I have turned on my SGI O2 to check what works.

Well,  I  have found  several  more  servers  not accessible  any  more
(tilde.news, I'm talking  about you), my Mutt  is of no use  now and so
on.

However, many  of more important  things still work: the  Talospace and
the FenFourFox  news (in the  Firefox) and even  the Gmail seems  to be
usable here. It complied  a lot about my WWW browser  but it still does
its work.

Even some on-line  rarios works (the ORF Radio Wien  and the Anonradio,
too). The Git works too (against the SDF Git). The Github doesn't work,
of course (except the git:// protocol - so only operations like "clone"
and  "pull" are  possible). This  is no  problem of  the Microsoft  the
git:// protocol was derailed long before they bought the Github.

Of  course, there  are  other  bad changes  which  are  not related  to
networking. The LaTeX was updated in  last years and the CsTeX was made
obsolete. So most of my LaTeX  slides and texts are not compatible with
current LaTeX  formats. Even worse,  many journals and  conferences (if
they accept LaTeX at all) require use templates full of strange things,
LuaTeX-only constructions, UTF-8 and so on. So I have had to convert my
files to more "modern" formats and now I am not able to open them on my
IRIX machines easily.

The rest of stuff works normally. So far.
