Hardware setup - early 2021
===========================
Just saw Logout's setup [1] (in Czech) so I decided to share my own
setup, too.
Here it is:
- desktop: Raptor CS Blackbird (POWER9) + EIZO 24" LCD, SGI keyboard
and mouse + HP LaserJet printer (shared) ; Fedora 32
- main laptop: GPD Pocket (7" or so LCD, Intel Atom); Ubuntu 20.04
- home SGI workstation: Indigo R3000 ; IRIX 5.3 (shares peripherals
with Blackbird)
- cottage workstation: Indigo R4000 + Compaq 15" LCD, original beige
SGI keyboard and mouse ; IRIX 5.3
- PDA: TRGpro (Palm IIIxe version, 8 MB of RAM, B/W LCD, 32 MB
CompactFlash card) + Kodak PalmPix Camera ; Palm OS 3.51
- tablet: reMarkable 2 (10" e-paper screen)
- phone: PUNKT. MP-01
- second phone (used on weekends, for hiking and so): Palm Centro
- camera: Kodak FZ-101
- GPS device: Garmin eTrex 25
- alarm clock and bedside notepad: PSION Organiser II LZ
So during workdays I carry a Punkt phone and the TRGpro (actually the
TRGpro is on my desk at work for most of time) and sometimes the GPD
Pocket. On weekend I carry the Centro, the Garmin and the camera. I
think this is almost the same like it was in few past years.
Of course I have and sometimes use several other devices. But I'm use
them so infrequently so I don't think that they should be listed
among my "main" devices: Apple PowerBook G4 1.67 (OS 10.5), BQ
M10 (UbPorts - Ubuntu Touch), Lenovo x60 (9front), MilkyMist One
(visualizations/effects for my CD player), Amazon Kindle 2013 (but I
don't remember why I actually turned it on), iMac G5, Elektronika
MK-90, Cambridge Z88.
It might look that I mostly abandoned my SGI workflow. At the moment it
is probably true. The HDD of my SGI Indy failed in 2019 and I still
don't managed to return the device to life (I already have a new HDD
but I also have to install and set up many thinks). My long-time main
workstation failed recently (hopefully it is just bad RAM) which have
leaved me without a configured and working SGI (the Indigos have only
the old IRIX 5.3 which cannot run many of tools I need because of
compatibility or because of their specs - it includes recent version of
Gnuplot and Octave, compiler and some libraries, TeX and so on). I hope
I will able to manage this. I also have a SGI Indigo 2. It still
refuses to boot but there are still some tricks which should try.
