I have tried to update my purple SGI Indigo2. I have replaced the HDD,
installed the floppy drive and the CD drive. I hoped that the CD drive
will made the installation process easier.
But I have found a bunch of issues instead: the floppy drive is faulty
(it prevents the system to start at all). The CD drive is a caddy type
one. But it turned that there is no caddy available...
So I connected my old good external Toshiba SCSI CD reader and used it
for installation. Everything worked as expected until reboot. Then the
system hangs at boot with a "KERNEL FAILURE" message. I have tried
several tricks but with no positive result. It fails before it is
possible to go to the "single user" mode so very little can be done.
To be honest I have no clue what is wrong. I suspect the hardware
because the installation has to work.
