Computing for now
==================

I had some plans for 2020 but there are several events (both global and
personal) which changed almost everything.

I almost have  ceased to use laptops/notebooks as I  have not travelled
and there  have been no normal  meetings (I usually use  my work laptop
for presentations  but there  have been  none). I once  tried to  use a
tablet on a meeting  (just to read documents) but I  don't thing that I
will use it once more (it's useless for my style of use, no matter what
brand/OS  it is).  I normally  use my  own GPD  Pocket mini-laptop  for
traveling but now I have little use for it.

For pocket computing:  I still use a  Palm IIIx (for reading  in my bed
with Plucker)  and the  TRGpro as a  PDA. But for  shopping and  in the
kitchen I (and my wife, too) use  the PSION Organiser II LZ (plus PSION
printer).

Last year I used  the Gemini PDA for the NextBike  service. This year I
repaired my own bike. Thus I no longer need an Android computer to ride
a bike..

As a desktop I still use the OpenPOWER workstation (the Blackbird) with
the Fedora Linux.  I have been more and more  disappointed with this OS
(it's too experimental for me and  it does not include many things that
I normally use ) but I still haven't enough time to replace it. I'm not
sure if the Void Linux is a good way for me, though.

I stated my SGI  O2 for just a few times. Anyway I  wrote more new code
on the O2 than on the Blackbird (but the OpenPOWER is much faster which
made it much more  useful to hunt the bugs!). And I  used my SGI Indigo
only for  five or four times  (I'm writing this post  on that computer,
anyway).

Phone: Well, there  is a problem. I  have not wanted to  carry my Punkt
MP01 everywhere (and to often clean it with aggressive substances) so I
have searched (and I'm still searching) for a second phone. Actually, I
use the Palm  Tungsten (with a proper case!) as  the secondary phone. I
tried the Nokia N900 but it's battery life is too short (and it has too
much moving parts to be easily cleaned).  Then I tried the Palm Pixi (I
have  2 of  them but  one doesn't  accept SIM  card and  I'm unable  to
activate the second). Then I tried my  old Nokia (the E52 I think) it's
nice but it's  broken so it cannot be  used as a phone. I  tried to buy
the Palm Centro but  after 3 months is is still not here.  So I have no
hopes that it  ever arrive. I didn't tried any  OpenMoko (their battery
life are too short due their unrepaired hardware issues) no the Aquaris
E4.5 (my old Ubuntu Phone). The E4.5 has non-removable battery which is
somewhat old and  it requires miniSIM (at  the moment I do  not want to
cut the regular SIM into mini size).  I also tried my old iPhone 3G but
it does not start at all.

I also have  noticed that I'm reading much more  books from our library
(I mean actual paper books) than usually. I have not started the Kindle
for more than month if I'm not mistaken.
