I have decided to rest a bit so I turned on my SGI IRIS Indigo (and old
computer without access to the contemporary WWW or e-mail), connected
my Psion Series 3a and tried to download some files which I made on the
Psion some time ago (a few spreadsheets and some texts).
As I had a problem with keyboard driver (it was runing in background
and refused to stop and to free the serial port) I had to search with
the Google (they still maintain a http:// search page!). I have found
an old FAQ pages by Professor MacKay. After solving of my problem (I
finally did a reset - I never needed it so I didn't know until today
that the small black hole above the "On" key is the reset hole...). I
also looked at other Professor's pages (it turned out that he died in
2016 and the pages are kept for archive reasons only). It seems that he
had his PSION even in 2011 (the last change of PSION section is from
2011) and he used it with his workstation (I didn't find any mention of
workstation brand - but I assume than he had a Sun machine as his
serial port was named "/dev/ttyb").
Also found a nice book and other teaching/learning materials here.
Learned a little about this interesting gentleman. So it has been a
good find anyway. And got my files from the Psion, by the way.
