Links on OS X
=============

The Links Web Browser [1] works on many platforms. I have been using it
on the  IRIX, on  the Linux  and so. And  it runs  in graphics  in many
environments including  a SVGA  (an ancient Linux  library) on  a Linux
framebuffer, on OS/2 graphical shell and so on.

But it  does not support Aqua  so it does not  run on Apple's Mac  OS X
native interface.  But it runs on  the X Window System  (the X11R6) and
even the Apple supports X11! (well, sort of).

I actually  use the Links ("links  -g") often, even on  my current (and
very fast) POWER9  workstation. But I had no Links  on my PowerBook G4.
It  makes  sense to  have  a  light WWW  browser  here  - while  it  is
magnitudes faster than my old SGI  O2 (not talking about performance of
an unoptimized  Firefox on the IRIX  vs the finely tuned  TenFourFox on
the  G4) is  is  still too  hard  for  the poor  PowerBook  to run  the
Mozilla browser.  It simply runs  of full speed  most of time  with CPU
temperatures over  60 Celsius  degrees while fans  are running  on full
speed...

So I have wished to have the Links here but I was never brave enough to
compile it.  Today I  tried to  compile the thing.  I compiled.  And it
runs! The "links" (console-only) works,  the "links -g" (X11 GUI) works
(it started the X11 subsystem and opened the window). It complies about
expired certificated but except that it works s expected. And fans have
been in idle  and temperatures above 50  C. The OS X is  10.5 (the last
PowerPC version).

Why only I didn't tried to compile it before!?
