GPD Pocket vs. Pocket 2: external screen
========================================
We have at home both models - I have the original Intel Atom-based one
and my wife has the newer Pocket 2 one (thus with the Core m3 CPU). The
other differences are the trackpoint and the miniHDMI in the older
model. The new m3 model is faster and produces less heat, so its fan
runs on lower speed than the fan of the older model.
I updated both to the Ubuntu MATE 18.04. Both run it well. I only
noticed that the Atom one is quite loud on external power but almost
quiet on battery. I should investigate the power settings.
But there is one unexpected difference. The new model has no video
port: the external display must be connected via its sole USB-C port.
It works but to get correct screen resolution one had to disable and
re-enable the internal screen in MATE Settings (it will be rotated for
90 degrees after this).
So I expected the worst when I connected the old Atom one to an
external LCD (via its miniHDMI). But it works perfectly on BOTH
screens. There is no problem with resolution or orientation...
