I connected a Palm OS device (a non-OS5 one) to the Internet. It was
quite simple: I inserted the SIM card and put it online.
But then I realised that some things will not be as simple as they are
on non-PDA systems. There is the EudoraWeb. IT can access http:// sites
(no https:// because I don't have the necessary SSL support) and it can
access the Gopher with help of Cameron Kaiser's Gopher proxy. There is
no native Gopher client, unfortunately. I can use FTP (vPalmFtp) but it
is not so easy. I have little idea how to get files as the old Palm OS
don't use the normal file system concept. There are commands like "save
file to Memo" so I should test them.
Having no SSL also means no e-mail today (all services that I use
require encryption). Telnet is possible but the PVTerm seems to be a
bit unstable on my device.
My initial idea was to use device for mobile writing (in then Memos)
with possibility to send the texts to the SDF or other server. It still
seems to be possible but it will require a bit more effort than I
initially expected.
