I wished to synchronise my Palm Tungsten W with my Linux desktop (the
SGI IRIX is out of game here because it was no USB). My Blackbird with
Fedora 30 does not work but the GPD Pocket with Ubuntu 18.04 (sort of)
works.
I tried many trick described on the Internet like writing udev rules.
But it seems that the only way to make it work is to load the "visor"
module ("modprobe visor") and do not touch the udev. Then it worked but
I woas only able to access the /devttyYSB0 as a root (with sudo). The
device only appears in the system when the Hotsync is active so it's
hard to change access rights for this USB0 (this si probably place
where some udev rule has to help but it does nothing at best). And it
only worked od the Ubuntu. In the Fedora the visor module is loaded
without errors but the USB0 nor the USB1 was created (I think that it
has nothing with ppl64le platform, it's just Fedora).
Anyway, the Tungsten W is a bit special - it has color a screen and the
USB but the older Motorola DragonBall CPU (m68k) and thus it has OS
4.x. The ARM-base Palms run the OS 5.x and reportedly have no such
problems (at least my wife's Palm T|X works without such tricks).
So I have to use my Palm III machines because they just works ;-)
