The bigger, 3U, heatsink for my Raptor Blackbird system arrived today.
It's not only bigger but it also incorporates the fan. That fan is not
on a top of the system but on a side (on that side which faces the
PCI-E slots - so in my case it is the bottom side).
In order to connect that fan I have had to turn off one of case fans.
It actually makes some difference. On startup the system is much
noisier that it was with three fans (now there are just two case fans
and that CPU fan). After that the system is almost quiet.
But temperatures are now under 50 degrees of Celsius. Previously I used
the "powersave" CPU governor and now I use the "ondemand". Temperatures
were previously about 60-62 degrees and now are about 50 degrees for
most time.
But the main difference is noise. Now the system is almost quiet even
under load. In the previous configuration it was much noisier.
