No New Devices for Some Time
============================
Well, I had to decided to non to extend my collection of computing.
gadgets There are several reasons for that.
The first one is that I actually upgraded all my main devices in last 2
(or so) years:
* a desktop: the Raptor CS BlackBird (that POWER9 monster)
* a laptop: the GPD Pocket
* a phone: the Punkt. MP01
I also have the Gemini PDA (an Android computer which resembles a PSION
Series 5 devices) for the cases when some "mainstream" stuff is needed
(i.e. to be able to unlock a shared bike and so).
The second reason is that I see no prospect in updating of other stuff.
The Kindle of 3rd generation is still fine (I hope that it's battery
will continue to work for some time), the nVidia Shield Tablet is still
excellent (the best tablet ever done, at least for my purposes - it's a
shame that they abandoned that market). And I'm satisfied with my Palm
and PSION devices (and I'm sure that no one will produce a newer,
better Palm or PSION...). My GPS (a Garmin eTrex Touch) still works
quite well, too (though I don't thing that the touchscreen is a good
input device for a GPSdesigned for hiking and climbing) . It's even
more durable than my older (and unfortunate) eTrex 30. I have enough
number of SGI workstation (one O2, one Octane, one Indy and two
Indigos, and a bunch of non-complete or damaged ones: the Indigo2 and
the Indy) and some IBM system, too. I can imagine some repairs here but
see no space for upgrades.
The third reason is less positive: many of our home appliances are not
new and they tend to broke after 10-15 years of service. Next week we
are going to replace our fridge (after 17 years of continuous service,
by the way). And I should thing of car replacement (the Skoda Octavia
from 2009) in the next few years, too... So I need so save some money
for future investment to home equipment and mobility. The bad thing is
that I have no idea how these things (namely the cars) will cost in the
future. If I will have to buy a car in, say, 2022 will the electric
cars mandatory? Or will be some crazy (and expensive) safety equipment
required? I have no idea.
Update: a PSION Organiser II XP arrived. I have forgotten that I
ordered it...
